Iran Calls for Greater Inclusion in AIIB Financing

Hossein Kashiri, general director for loans and international institutions at Iran’s Ministry of Economy, acknowledged the AIIB’s growth into a respected multilateral lender over the past decade but noted that some members—including Iran—have faced external obstacles limiting their participation.

“While the AIIB has achieved significant successes, certain members have not fully benefited due to challenges beyond the bank’s control,” Kashiri said during the June 24-26 meeting.

As a founding member, Iran has actively supported the AIIB’s development, he added.

Kashiri outlined three key proposals for the bank’s next phase:

A review of financing policies to improve accessibility.

Expanded non-lending cooperation, including technical and advisory support.

Strengthening regional connectivity through Iran, leveraging its geographic position to develop transport, energy, and digital infrastructure.

Iran is prepared to collaborate on priority projects, such as renewable energy and green transportation, Kashiri said.

“We believe the AIIB can play a stronger role in sustainable development and regional integration,” he concluded. “The second decade should ensure all members can participate actively.”
